The few websites that existed before 2007 were fragmentary, with poor content, and images that did not even remotely reflect the true beauty of the island. Someone had to do it right.

The Artistic Eye and Life in Kythira

The creator of kithera.gr is a visual artist, a local expert who has lived and worked permanently in Kythira for years. This is no coincidence, it is the basic requirement for a site like this to exist. Life on the island, the daily contact with the landscapes, the villages, the people and its seasons, cannot be replaced by any leisure trip or any article written from a distance.
Every photograph, every map, every description comes from direct, repeated personal experience, not from secondary sources or tourist clichés, so as to function as an authentic local guide that reliably addresses the general public.

Original Content and Primary Documentation

The artistic vision behind the site is not accidental. An artist sees differently: the light that falls on Chora in the afternoon, the texture of the stone on a bridge, the way the sea changes color depending on the time and season. This aesthetic sensitivity permeates every aspect of the content — from the choices of framing the photos, to the way the information is organized, so that the visitor can “feel” the place before even visiting it. The way the island’s color palette is conveyed to the general public is very important to kithera.gr.
Kithera.gr is the only tourist guide on the island that has created entirely original content. All photos are primary material and were taken on site, in different seasons and weather conditions. All maps were designed exclusively for the site, they are not copies or variations of existing ones. This is primary documentation of an entire island, a job that requires years of presence and dedication.
Since its creation in 2007, kithera.gr has systematically covered 21 villages, 33 beaches, 16 historical monuments, 8 natural areas and 6 hiking trails — with 8 to 12 photos and detailed mapping for each location. At the same time, it provides complete practical information: ship and plane schedules, accommodation, local products, activities. A complete, living guide that is constantly updated.
The site was not created for commercial purposes. It was created out of love for a place and the belief that Kythira deserves to be presented with the respect and completeness it deserves. This principle has remained unchanged since day one.

Innovation & Visual Documentation

A still from the animation, the moment the diver discovers the hand of a statue protruding from the sand at the bottom of the sea.

Kithera.gr is not limited to simply recording information, but is a pioneer in the use of visual arts to highlight its identity island:
Animation Tour: We created a unique, interactive animation presentation Tour of Kythira that offers an alternative, live tour of Kythira, which you will not find in any other guide.
The Shipwreck of Antikythera: The production of the animation video for the world-famous The Shipwreck of Antikythera was a milestone for our site, as it went viral with over 10,000 views within a few days, garnering excellent reviews and wide publicity on the internet, and publications from the largest newspapers nationwide scope, highlighting the historicalor the importance of our region.
Digital Editing & Composition: We use complex techniques of editing and artistic composition of photos to visualize themes of Kythera that common photography cannot render, offering a deeper aesthetic experience to the visitor.

Our Philosophy for Tourism

A rural scene from the island’s countryside, with villagers resting from their hard work under the shade of a centuries-old olive tree.

For us at kithera.gr, tourism is not an industry of numbers, but a bridge of culture. We believe in a tourism that respects the scale of the island, the tranquility of the landscape and the authenticity of the local community.
Quality over Quantity: We promote experiences that allow the visitor to connect with the island, walk its paths, taste its products and learn about its history, beyond the usual tourist standards.
Respect for the Environment: The protection of the nature of Kythira is our priority. Through our guide, we encourage responsible browsing of the 33 beaches and protected habitats of the island. For example, we never present beaches that are full of people, with umbrellas and artisanal constructions. We always believe that we should promote nature unaffected by human intervention.
Supporting the Local Economy: We highlight the hardworking people, local producers and small family businesses that are the heart of Kythera. We present local producers and their local products, so that people can easily find them at local bazaars and at the traditional festivals of the island.
Cultural Promotion: We actively support the cultural events of Kythira, promoting painting exhibitions, art workshops, concerts and local festivals. We believe that art and culture are the “voice” of the island and we must make it heard by every visitor. Our goal is not just to bring your body to Kythera, but for your soul to take something from the light and energy of this place.
Above all, respect. We believe that tourism does not have unlimited rights, especially for such sensitive and pure environments as those of Kythera. Mass tourism can be a profitable business for some, while for others it can be a hassle, and for this reason we have created a guide to behavior while staying on the island.

We would like to thank everyone who has contacted us, and for the positive comments sent to us regarding Kithera.gr ~ Panorama.
We continue with the promise to constantly upgrade the level of Kithera.gr, and inviting everyone this summer to get to know the magical Kythera and its hospitable people!
We wish you a wholeheartedly pleasant vacation in Kythera, the island of Heavenly Aphrodite and Pure Love!

About kithera.gr The Birth of an Idea in 2007 Kithera.gr was born on 12-02-2007 from a need that was obvious to anyone who knew the island: there was no reliable, complete travel guide to Kythira that met international standards.
