Archaeological Museum

Journey in the history of Kythira

The Archaeological Museum of Kythira is located at the entrance to the island's capital Chora, the building where currently housed was constructed in 1911 to house the Kythirian Association, then it was donated in 1975 to the Ministry of Culture, which then was renovated in 1981 to house the finds of archaeological excavations . In 1991 it became an extension room and guest room was created.
The museum because of damage by earthquakes in 2006, had remained closed until 20015 and where fully completed the restoration and renovation work.
Today it is based on modern museological studies, so that the visitor has direct contact with the exhibits, and what a pleasant tour experience, for no reason you should not miss!

The most important exhibits are:
Pottery and stone utensils Minoan from Paleopolis.
The archaic lion of Kythira.
Male portrait head man rudely Roman times.
Marble head youthful. Roman copy of a 4th century BC.
